About
A Brief History of Kipchak
When was Kipchak created?
Kipchak was developed by Mamluk LC in 2022 in Dubai, UAE.
Why was Kipchak created?
We build and maintain several dozen APIs as part of our open source and proprietary projects.
Laravel and Symfony had become overkill with their complexity and learning curve and all the unnecessary magic under the hood.
We wanted to use something simple that allowed us to:
- Still write in PHP, the language we like to develop in, as opposed to in Laravel or Symfony specific PHP (or in YAML, which seems to be a trend these days).
- A way to do seamless upgrades – upgrading Symfony and Laravel projects can be quite challenging.
- Having blazing fast performance with a low CPU and memory footprint.
- Make DTOs and Open API specifications first class citizens.
- Abstract away the complexity of service container management.
- Have an extremely lightweight core with no unnecessary dependencies.
So we started with Slim Framework and built Kipchak.
Why the name Kipchak?
Kipchak is named after the family of Kipchak Turks that formed the Mamluk Sultanate of Cairo in the 13th century (after whom the company Mamluk LLC was named).
The motivations for using the name Mamluk our outlined on https://mamluk.net/about.
Because Kipchak is part of most of the work we do, it seemed like the right name to use in the context of the Mamluk brand.
